LATE SEA

15 February - 5 March 2022

The second solo exhibition of Mimi Dobreva opens at Stubel Gallery on February 15. It features 13 paintings she created in the last year.

“Observing the arrangement in the landscape and trying to decipher it, I see in it either something familiar or, in most cases, something borderline - supposedly familiar, but containing the opportunity to explore from a new starting point for reading the visible in nature. The provocation for a painting, for me, physically present in the landscape, can be the shaping, the color, the arrangement of objects, the light… In fact, all of the above, combined with my perception, reveals something else in my understanding of the nature around us and within us, the heavenly design in the mystery of this arrangement. Over time, I discover a recurrence and regularity in the relationship between the elements in the landscape, patterns of manifestation, confirmation of the feeling of how, despite the great variety in the magic of views, we can find the great simplicity of Meaning,” says the author.

Mimi Dobreva was born in 1953 in the town of Popovo. She graduated from National Academy of Art in 1977 (Class of Prof. Dobri Dobrev). Since 1982, she has had more than 20 solo exhibitions, as well as participations in group exhibitions, in Bulgaria, Croatia, USA and Japan.
