Beyond Reality

From 15 to 31 October 2015, Stubel Gallery is proud to present the famous Bulgarian artist, scenographer and director Ivan Savov. In his latest exhibition, entitled "Beyond Reality", the author once again demonstrates masterful painting and precise technique.

Ivan Savov was born in Sliven in 1944, but moved to Sofia to study art, graduating from the School of Applied Arts. He exhibited his works for the first time at the Regional Art Exhibition in Sliven in 1959. Since then his paintings have been included in many collective exhibitions at home and abroad. "Beyond Reality" is his twenty-fifth solo exhibition.

Ivan Savov has designed the scenography and costumes of more than 250 opera, ballet and drama preformances in various theaters in Bulgaria and abroad. He has worked with world-renowned choreographers Maris Liepa, Fernando and Alicia Alonso, Giancarlo Vantaggio, Alain Bernard, and Oleg Danovski.

Ivan Savov was chief artist of the Ruse Opera twice: first in the period of 1982 - 1994 and again in 2000 - 2005. He has also served as chief artist and director in the Burgas Opera, director and set designer in the Chamber Opera - Blagoevgrad, and chief artist in the Stara Zagora Opera and the Plovdiv Opera.

Since 1991, his aristic breadth has expanded to include directing , and he has staged 24 operas. His performances have been presented all over Europe, as well as North America and Asia.

Ivan Savov has won many prestigious awards for his work: "Silver Lyre", Award for scenography of the Union of Bulgarian Artists ( 1982 ), "Cristal Lyre" of the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dancers ( 2004 ), as well as the "Golden Lyre" for Lifetime Achievement.

Works of the famous artist are owned by the National Gallery of Art, Sofia City Gallery, the galleries in Stara Zagora, Sliven, Burgas and Russe, and numerous private collectors at home and abroad, including Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland and USA.
